Engine Swap

Hi,
I have a1991 Ford Escort MK5 Cabriolet w/1600 efi engine.
Being partially disabled I want to upgrade to a newer engine with an automatic transmission. What would be a good swap?

Don't. Buy a car with an automatic gearbox.

I totally agree on this age escort, don't, just swap the car for an auto, it's a LOT more than just the gearbox to swap, ecu for a start as well.
Tbh the auto of this age on a ford escort were a disaster, I'd seriously consider something else.
