mk6 rs2000
Hi , please need help.
I have a mk6 rs2000 that will not start, the dash lights come on, but nothing on the last turn, the red light under the clock just flashes, no noise from anywhere, been told it is an ecu problem ,could this be right and if so what do i do, tried a search but no real answers.
Any help would be great.
Cheers........

The blue bit on the key has been messed with by someone, the immobilizer red light flashes all the time when trying to start the car, do not know what this ring to read the key is, is there any way of finding out wich it is without going to garage, any info is welcome, not good with electrics, confuses me .

The ring is located around the ignition lock. It picks up the key number and transmit that number to the immobilizer. The immobilizer will check if the key is valid.
If you had a spare key it would be simple to find out what is wrong.
Since you don't have a spare key and you're also not good with electrics I would say, take it to the dealer.

The fact the LED is not extinguishing shows the immobilise to be armed hence why it will not start.
If someone has messed with the transponder the red or blue "Chip" in the key this will be the most likely reason.
There are different versions of the PATS system the older versions which yours maybe has a red key, this is known as the master and you need this in order to program other keys.
I suspect it is nothing more than the key that is wrong.

Thanks for the reply, it is a 1996 car, i only have one key and do not have the red master, would i have to go to ford for a new key, or would i have to get a new ecu with compatible key.

I am not familer with the RS2000 so I can't say for sure, so the key you have has a blue transponder?
If it is the system I mentioned which would be around the time of the car then yes you need the red master key to program additional keys, there are of course ways around if this is not avaliable but most won't be able to do it as you need Ford software ETC to connect to ECU.

My Rs is now back up and running, it was the immobilizer, found out there was no chip in the key and the ring that picks up the signal had been moved to under the dash, called a auto locksmith and they made a new chip for me and checked the ecu as i did not have the master key to program a spare key, was alot cheaper than ford as well.
Well chuffed as i bought it as a none runner....
