2.9 xr4x4 electrics
can anybody tell me if the fuse boxes are a weak point on '89 xr4x4 as i am having a few problems, headlights won't come on unless you wiggle the relay, stereo switches itself on n off, but the main issue is that at between 900-2000 revs for a split second the car cuts out causing a rather irritating hiccup (being very polite aren't I) but this only happens when cruising at 30ish once the revs pass 2k all is good until you need to bring car back down to tickover, when this happens the revs drop down to around 4-500rpm for a few seconds before picking itself back up to around 900. Can anbody shine any light on any of these issues please . . . .before i do something that i might regret . . . . cheers Ged.
They don't normally give issues in this dept, I would check your charging rate first, if too low although it will start can give problems with some lecky stuff being more sensitive, first thing to go though is the rev counter will stop reading with lowering voltage, otherwise think you've just been unlucky with having a few probs crop up at once, try cleaning the earths where you can see any as well.
I assume your battery/charge warning light works ?, if not just rev to 3500 or so and this will kick the alternator in.

Sounds like dodgy earths mate, the ones behind the headlights are a bit prone to messing about, just stripped mine back and cleaned them, had the weirdest lighting/indicator/ buzzing relay fault I've ever seen lol
thanks tabetha, now you mention it the rev counter doesn't seem to working properly, it does work but seems to give a low reading to the sound of the engine if you know what i mean, so i will check out your advice cheers.
thanks snoopaloopa will check those earths too.

Thanks for your tips guys . . . . but unfortunately not solved my problem . . . car has an immobiliser on it gonna try n disconnect that to see if that is the culprit as it has been on for about 15 years maybe it has gone a bit twitchy . . . will let ya know if it works but again thanks for your replies
