Default ST170 throttle cable

I've had a look in my Haynes manual (for the 1.8l and 2.0l models) that this is "self-adjusting".

Does this mean that I should never have to tighten it up? I only ask as when I cleaned the throttle body some time ago it's always seemed slacker or not as responsive since.

I think I may have stretched the cable, however if it is "self adjusting" as the manual states for the other models, then this would not make sense?

Thanks, Alex

It is not self adjusting, sounds like your not getting wide open throttle when you floor it, ie the butterfly is not fully opening. You need to slide the adjuster cover off the cable and make sure you are hitting the stop when you floor the accelerator pedal

Thanks, yeah I've been looking around at some other threads and had a play with the adjuster last night.

The situation previous was that I was able to acheive wide open throttle however I had to take up the slack in the cable first meaning that the car did not feel as responsive as it should.

Last night I fully tightened the throttle cable meaning that the car became very responsive however I was then not able to acheived wide open throttle as my accelerator pedal was hitting either the stop or the floor of the car before the butterfly was fully open.

I have now fully slackended the throttle cable again but I have yet to test it.

I think I will be back to square one and so will attempt to tighten the cable in smaller increments to acheive optimum performance.

Sound do able?
