Hi there, first post on the forum...recently my 1.8 Eurdura TD engine'd Mk5 fiesta developed a belt squealing noise this was a few days or so after I'd cleaned the engine bay...nothing crazy went easy with a hose. Now I thort initially it was the Aux belt...
I've had the covers off cambelt and aux, but still cannot find where the tensioner for the big ribbed aux belt is or how to adjust it!?
I was certain it was this because I sprayed some "belt dressing spray" on the aux belt which would silence it when spraying onto the belt, but as soon as I let off it seemed to get alot worse.
Now as I took the cambelt cover off I noticed that on the bottom gear that drives some kind of pump? The cambelt had moved a bit to the right as if you are standing at the front of the engine bay. If I get a flatbladed screwdriver I can prise the belt along the gear without too much effort. On the inside where the cambelt tensioner sits there is alot of tension on the belt it is very much tensioned...on the side you can see closest to you the belt seems to have a "bit" of movement up and down? Is this normal?
Do the 1.8 Endura TD engines have problems with the cambelt tensioners? I know the belt was recently changed about 15K ago...but not the tensioner...
I'd like to try and adjust the Aux belt first as I'm still sure it's that...but seeing the cambelt having that little bit of play in it on the side that is closest to you has me a bit worried about the tensioner...
So please where is the aux big ribbed belt tensioner located and how to adjust?
Appreciate your input...
Marc
