Default Escort Mk6 Fuse Box Problem??

Hello everyone im new to the forum and I hope you can help ive been looking round here for a while now and have finally decided to register.

Heres the story im 25 now but my first car was a mk5 1.3 escort with the rs skirts and a few other bits and i loved it. recently my father in law has been driving round in a chavved up mk6 1.8 s.i and i love i apart from the chavvy mirrors and wheels and a few other bits which would be easily sorted its a good solid car with no rust that i can see.

Here the problem the father in law is going working away and said i can have the car , its not working at the moment as he seems to think its a fuse box problem i have taken off the fuse box and its all burnt inside soi bought a new one for it with a slightly different part number and it didnt work all that happened is that the back wiper came on and wouldnt switch off

the original fuse box part number is

96ag14a073bb

the one i fitted is

97ag14a073bb

is this the problem does the number have to be identical

also i put the original fuse box back in and every thing seems to work apart from the car doesnt start and also the father in law has cheaked the starter motor and he said its working fine

i hope you can help people as i would love this car as my project and want to save it from the scrappers

The short answer to your question is yes, in most cases the fuse-box must be the same. The one your looking for came off a 96 RS2000 in most cases, the one you've replaced it with is not the same. Not sure what your original problem was, but a burnt out box, would indicate an electrical problem. One other suggestion, ring ford dealership, give you car reg and ask what is the part number for a box for this car. PS don't say your buying, or not buying.

as said above you need to swap like for like with exactly the same part number otherwise you are going to get problems.

a lot of mk6's are prone to dodgy fusebox, i still have some left if you want me to check against part numbers?
