Default IB5 question

Is there a switch i can get that can tell the ECU which gear is selected?

Ive read something about this but cant find it now.

Its basically identical to the BC gearbox ive got, no hydro clutch or anythin. Think its from an escort. Has the speed sensor on the speedo output and white reverse switch at front of box.

It'd be handy so i can set boost limits in lower gears etc...

There is no way of telling an ecu from a standard gearbox what gear its in , these are ok for sequential boxes , the best way to do I would think is to mount microswitches by the gearlever with different resistors so the boost ecu sees different voltages at different gearlever positions .

So how do newer focus st's do it? They have torque limiter in 1st and 2nd.

I've read somewhere there is something that goes where reverse switch is on gearbox. If not d'ya think emerald could be mapped to limit boost below certain revs at lower speeds?

I have the speed sensor still attached to newer gearbox and don't need it for anything on car. Could have one map limit boost under certain speed and throttle position/revs.

You could if you had a map that compared wheel speed and engine revs , but on a front wheel drive would be easier to use a rear wheel sensor as this would give a true figure , not a spinning wheel speed , then say anything under 30 mph it only allows so much and then does it in steps .

But it should be accurate enough if driven from speedo cable sensor instead of abs style sensor? Just so I can limit wheelspinning and power at lower speeds to make more driveable.

I can switch maps to use full boost from standstill. Planning to get emerald k3.
