if it smells of fuel and a pig to start it could have perished fuel lines, does it missfire at all, and if ya can take 1 of the spark plugs out and check it, i.e colour/wet/dry

check the back of the inlet too as the gasket might be gone and would cause it to stall, misfire and smell of fuel

if it was the cut off switch it would cut off completly, could be dodgy relay/wiring, and i very much doubt it would be alarm related

CTS= Coolant Temperature Sensor, it's basically a thermister that supplies ECU with info on coolant temperature hence the name.

You could buy TPS second hand but TBH don't see why they cant adjust it as normally they are adjustable (Unless yours has broken down) can't say certain for your car but it's just a potentiometer on a spindle.

it should be the same as any Xr2i one aswell, i may possibly have a spare one kicking about if u get stuck, i fitted my xr2i engine into the gfs escort cabby that i fitted an efi loom into and it worked fine so!!

Will have a look around for one , as these are the same as all EFI's including Turbos , I think a replacement had better be found .

The original part, FINIS number 6539215 is obsolete, but there is a replacement part that your dealer should be able to find. Unfortunately not many of them seem to know how to use their computer properly and give up.

Ask them to do an OSI search. It should bring up a new part number 6854781 which I believe is still available.

However, I'm not convinced this is your problem as this sensor shouldn't cause the car to cut out, although it would make it hard to drive. If this part was faulty it wouldn't make any difference if the car was hot or cold either.

Halfords sell a Gunson fault code reader for about Ł25 that you can plug in to a diagnostic socket which is near the passenger side strut top. I suggest you get one of those and it should tell you which sensor is faulty. Otherwise you risk getting a new TPS and having exactly the same problem.

I checked yesterday and was told that the later part is available either genuine or as a pattern part , I ordered the pattern part as then I can check the resistance graph against a genuine one , will let you know .
