Ford Focus II
Took the Focus in for an MOT today and it failed miserably!
The fails are below
Brake pedal anti slip rubber worn (Corrected, swapped for clutch rubber)
Left and right front position lamps not working (Correct, wrongly diagnosed as sidelights were and are working)
Left and right rear indicators lacking amber (Corrected new bulbs fitted.)
Power steering leak
Rear parking brakes recording little or no effort (I think it recorded 10% when min was 16%)
Front brakes imbalanced
What a nightmare, I thought it would be ok.
The powersteering is leaking slightly from what I think is the pipe before the pump, apparently a comon problem on the Focus? Should this fail the MOT anyone suggest anything I can do to get me through the MOT on this one, I'm going to clean the whole underbody of the car to get rid of the crap and make it look a bit better underneath.
Brakes however are a problem - do you think it just needs handbrake adjusting?
Not sure about the fronts being unbalanced?
Any advice is really appreciated MOT expires Wednesday

PS fluid leakingh from the joint between the ps tank and the pump input is not uncommon, the cure, is amazing though, a bit of plastic and some very rough emery cloth, or sandpaper.
Take of inlet pipe between pump and tank, plug the hole 100% with either a wodden dowel, or plastic dowel, roughen the exterior of the inlet stub on the pump where the pipe goes, this will effect a 100% cure.
Front brakes imbalanced could be due to several things, have a look and see if ther eis any air in the lines, if so bleed till clear, or if old fluid bleed clean through, same with rear, then check that neither piston is sticking, if it is get a helper and pump the piston out further than it would normally go, spray with diesel, or parrafin, clean with old toothbrush, if discs look rusty consider whether you need new ones, or whether a roasting of the brakes will do the job, most stick due to easy brakers.
For the rear again inspect, sometimes if drum a manual adjust of the auto adjusters is needed, but check the cable is not sticking, check also the wheel cylinders have not leaked fluid onto the shoes, if so replace both sides shoes and wheel cylinders.
If disc make sure the e brake cable is free again and that the caliper e brake mechanism has not seized, they do, again a bleed will not go amiss.

Hi mate cheers very much for your reply, I had a look under the car for the pas leak and couldnt find exactly where it was coming from I checked the thin tube running down the side of the rad and that looked fine.
If its any help narrowing it down the fluid basically finds its way down with gravity and sits at the bottom of the pump creating a drip. Whats the best way to get to the pipe you suggest may be leaking as its so tight down there?

Mot - Passed!
Took it to an alternative station without touching the PAS minor leak or brakes and guess what, passed with advisories.
Lessen learn't if the offer is too good to be true (Mr Clutch, Kingston: MOT for £26) it usually is.
