Default Zetec Running Throttle Bodies? Yes or No?

have a Mk2 Mondeo 2.0 zetec. Got the bomz induction kit, 4.2.1 manifold, decat, fast road piper cams (its running about 145-150bhp).

I am looking at now doing this-
Set of throttle bodies
New ECU
New wireing loom
Remaped

This will cost about £2000, please help me is it worth doing? Want more performance but love my car and dont want to sell it and get a new one.
What gains would I be looking at?

Depends how serious you went with it mate. Should see about 170bhp odd with standard throttle body setup and mapping. If you went ARP rod bolts, stage 2 worked head and depending what cams you have in you could see 180+bhp.

Thank you for you advice. Well if I go the TB route I would leave it at TB's, ECU, loom and map. Was going to go turbo conversion however that would cost about £2500-£3000. Tb route would cost me about £2000 but not sure if the gains justify paying out £2000. If i spend £2000 I want to get in my car and feel a respectable gain in power

Better off going turbo tbh mate TB is good if you can do it on the cheap otherwise no point really. If you are going to spunk £2k already stick another grand on top and have 200+bhp and 230ft/lbs+ from 2500rpm up.

Ok thanks, I know its a little random but will my clutch be ok running about 7psi and 200bhp? (on a 2.0 blacktop) and would it be ok not to lower the compression as Im only running a little boost?

With the right set up you could see easily over 200 on tb's.

I think unless it's a motorsport application you are best off with turbocharging the Zetec, especially in a big car like a Mondeo.

However, the noise they make is something else!

Yes but will cost more than a turbo conversion to get right, and will provide a less usable powerband than a turbo.

Low boost conversion for a blacktop zetec you can get away with decomp plate (thich head gasket) and standard internals.

You generally get a nice flat torque curve with throttle bodies and mild cams.

But for the outlay it isn't worth it and for it to make decent power like a turbo you will purposely make it peaky. On my 1.8 now I could shove a set of TBs and run OMEX on it nice rev limit about 7500rpm and get flat torque from 2500rpm upwards and nice rising bhp curve all the way to the limiter but still only make probably about 160-165bhp max whereas 2.0 would make say 170-180max. Turbo would do WELL over 200bhp and have MASSES of torque from 2500rpm up and even near the limiter still be making more torque than TB's would be making at peak torque.

Either way, I was just correcting what you said or rather throwing another side in. Mild cams and TBs will give a very responsive engine.

For a heavy car like the mondeo, i would have thought the turbocharging route would be the better one to take because of the extra torque you would end up with. I'm running a 210hp N/A 2lt silver top on barrel throttles in a mk6 escort and i could do with some more torque tbh! Everything happens at the top end of the rev range because of the cams I fitted, but thats the price you pay for having that gorgeous sound! And by god does it sound good lol! I reckon there's about £4.5-£5k's worth of bits in it as well so the turbo route is probably the better one.

There's only one option on a heavy car thats turbo power! Na is the best for lighter cars that dont need the torque
