XR4i cosworth conversion not starting
I hope somone can help!I have been helping a friend convert his xr4i to cosworth power. He got the engine as a runner from north yorkshire rs spares, we have got everthing in and wired up but the thing wont start, we have fuel getting to the chambers and we have spark, it turns over but wont start. He has replaced the phase sensor and set the gap. We have checked the crank sensor gap and that is ok. I have checked for a pulse to the injectors and that seems ok too.
The only thing fuel-wise i can think might be is maybe the xr4i's fuel accumulator causing a problem, will this need to be removed?
Dose anyone have any ideas what to try to find out what the problem is?
Thanks in advance.
Check for spark by pulling plug leads off, putting a sprak plug in, earthing it, cranked engine over and they sparked. As for fuel, pulled off main pipe from fuel rail and cranked engine over; sending for pressure gage tomorrow to check pressure.
Do you know when you turn the ignition on, is the pump meant to prime, it used to when it was the XR4i? Check for voltage at pump, no voltage at prime but voltage when cranking engine over.

Pump will prime only when it needs to, you may see a very short burst of power when you turn on the ignition, or you may not, i wouldn't get hung up on not seeing anything, as long as it's getting it when your cranking it should be fine.
As for the fuel, your sure it's getting fuel to the rail and the injectors are pulsing, therefore they should be allowing fuel into the engine.
What i would suggest is checking the CPS again as that sends the signal to prime the pump, but from what you've said it sounds ok.
Are the plugs ok, had a similar issue with my old 2WD, spark when i took the plugs out, but not when they were under compression, plugs became soaked in fuel and wouldn't fire, maybe worth cleaning them or replacing them???

You need to whip the plugs out first, see if they are soaked in fuel, if they are not then the injectors are not opening, the cps is okay, as it wouldn't be sparking with no reading.
Try closing the plug gaps to 0.5mm to give the coil an easier time, saying that what coil are you using ?.
Did you dismantle the engine at all prior to fitting and disturb anything ?
You could always unplug coil lt wires the spin over with the rail removed but with injectors/supply still there to see if they are firing.
