Default Remote key advice

Completely out of touch with all this, so would appreciate some advice...
Just picked up an 07 Fiesta for the wife - car came with 1 remote key and a bog standard key.

The non-remote key will unlock the doors, but nothing else - obviously not programmed for the immobiliser I'm guessing, but as I say, I'm not up on remote locking at all!

Question is, what options do I have to get the 2nd key working the same as the remote key? Am I looking at £160+ from a dealer, or is there another (less expensive) route I can look at?

TIA
Sol

You are correct it needs programming, when you turn the ignition on you will notice the immobilizer LED will pulse rather than extinguish. On the newer system there is a procedure that can be found in the handbook to program the other key it involves something like turning the paired key from ignition to off several times, this then activates "Learn Mode" you can then pair the second key with the car. Should have been done already I suspect it's a replacement key.

Cheers Martin

When Mrs C test drove the car it only had a non-remote key (think the dealer got the car from auction). The dealer arranged to get a new remote key & had it programmed, but obviously didn't do anything with the other key...

Still waiting for a replacement handbook as this was missing too, so I can't even check that at the mo

The non remote key (Transponder) should still work, unless it got erased when whomever programmed the new remote key.

To program another put the working remote key into ignition turn to on (leave on for at least one second) no longer than 10 and remove key.

Within 20 seconds put new key in and switch to ignition for a least one second and off again.

The PATS LED on dash should illuminate for 3 seconds to indicate key has been programmed successfully.

Thanks for this Martin - where you say "to program another.." do you mean I should try this on a new transponder key?

My non remote key definitely doesn't work, other than unlocking the doors.

Cheers

Below are instruction to program remote key:

I'm sure you use your existing key for the below only using the REMOTE key for step 3 once "Learning Mode" has been activated.

1. Insert Key and turn to II, then Turn Key from II to I and back to II four times within 3 seconds

2. The PATS LED should light. Turn Key to Position 0.

3. Press the Unlock button and keep it pressed until the PATS LED flashes 4 times.

4. Add additional fobs the same way. Turn to II and back to 0 to end.
