Default 2001 mondeo problems

hi guys, im looking to buy this mondeo to make some cash on!! it has some problems though...

1. eml on
2. smokes heavy (blue) on hard throttle
3. idles lumpy (engine rocks) but clears when revved
4. slight knocking noise from somewhere

any ideas? he has thrown money at it in the past by dropping something in the engine so had to replace it! it was running mint until a few days of having it mot'd.

its a cracking motor but just dont want to waste my time and money if its really funked.

thanks

Start by having the fault codes read, either by a dealer or an independent with the correct scanner equipment. Make sure you get the number of the fault codes.

Have you checked the obvious, I.E is the ignition system healthy not causing the misfires. To check HG failure look at the oil fillter cap for mayonaise and also the header tank for an oily film indicating the two mixing together, misfire can also be caused by HG failure.

If blue smoke suspect engine wear.

Indirectly yes, if car is misfiring and rocking engine which could be seen on the knock sensor hence illuminating the EML. You can easy reset the KAM by removing the 1A fuse (Purple) for a few seconds.

KAM "Keep Alive Memory" is what stores the fault codes etc when you remove the fuse it will clear this do not need ignition on at all to do it.

yeah i know mate but im hoping to make some money to fund my corsa lol, it is running and i can pick it up cheap! and only knowing vauxhalls i thought it would be best to ask...

just remove the fuse then without ignition or engine running...then if it comes straight back on is there a way to read the codes without a scanner?
