i have a ford fiesta van 1.8 deisel with an endura engine and am in two minds to get rid.
its racing green nice looking van just put an mot on it.
it struggles to start when cold and jumps about a bit when driving and kicks out some smoke on start up but the stops.. any ideas please...

 

Pre heat (glow) plugs? Even one failed could cause these symptoms.

 

Does sound like glow plugs mate. Problem gets amplified in very cold weather.

I had the same problems as u describe with my 1.8D, new glow plus deff helped and i had to keep my foot on the accelerator to keep from stalling after a cold start too. If it has high miles id recommend what i did and go for an engine swap and a turbo conversion instaed! with a lower miles engine it starts a lot better and was pretty cheap and easy to do!
