Question Boost or not to Boost?

Hiya,

Wondered if anyone could answer my query?.....

Bought a 4wd sierra cossie earlier this month; stage 3, MSD 380+ chip to run with Siemens 55lb's and stg3 T34.....

It hadn't been set-up so took it to a local garage. Basically they fitted a manual boost controller to adjust the boost but shoudn't the remapped chip automatically run approx. 30psi boost through the amal? Before they installed the manual boost controller it peaked at approx. only 1bar?

Any ideas why this would be?

CheerRS,

Chris

Most likely the amal was faulty, so they replaced with a bleed valve, as you say the chip will control the Amal for the boost only thing needs changing/modifiying is the jet in the (R) sector of Amal.

The only thing that needs changing is your garage.
Take off the bleed valve, fix the std set up with a working amal, it's far better and certainly safer.

Will a standard amal do the trick or how do you modify?

Does anybody know how to adjust the standard amal valve to suit 30psi as programmed into the mapped ECU? Pipes R and C have restrictor inserts whilst pipe W has nothing in mine.
Also thinking about upgrading to a -34 actuator - would this be the best one to go for?

You would need a -31 or -34, -31 is normally suffice, it's hard to say specific instructions as some just remove the jets some drill/use bigger to get desired boost. But you need to make sure you get it right otherwise could run to much boost. Easiest way to think if you wanted to run 15PSI and you have a actuator than can handle 10PSI then 5PSI would need bleeding off to achieve.

Just take the restrictors out, ecu should control boost.
