Default Escort Mk6 startmotor problem.

Hi guys & Gals.

Ive stripped my old engine out, put new engine in, But now come to start it, it wont start...

Ive conected the wiring to it corectly as ford has a Plastic housing on the end of the wiring so u cant go wrong. But as soon as i put the earth onto it & turn the Key The starter just keeps clicking like mad ...

Ive tried a different starter, does the same, IVe tried not puttin the earth on but still made sure that the started was earthed onto the G/box, but nothing, it just clicks once n thats it. Ive tried 3 different batterys no good. IVe disconted the leads from the alternator at the mo also untill i can get the s/motor working... This is my start motor im using off my old engine that started first time everytime with no problem wot so ever...

Id sooner not bump start the car either, not yet..

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

K cheers, Ill add it to my list of things to do, The starters been sittin in the boot of my car for about a month but with this Cold weather we been having im sure it hasnt done it no good.

Im going to try it conected via a jump lead tomorrow to see if that will work , or ill pull the thing off again and conect it direct to the battery to see if it spins or not.

If not then ill go for broke and see if it jump starts..

Just bridge the solenoid terminals to make sure the motor part is not jammed, this will not engage the starter merely cause it to spin, the ngagement part being done prior to spinning by the solenoid.
As it was working before chances are it is fine, so you need to find why it is not getting enough oompf from the battery, or cable problem.
Did you reconnect the starter wire that has a disconnet terminal near the battery, about 6" away a thinner wire ?

yeah that little thin wire is conected the same time the +(pos) cable from the battery conect's due to the plastic housing ford use for it... ive bridged the + & - terminals on the sm together n they spark, Ive conected the sm with the plastic housing, and then gone direct from the Negative on the battery direct to the s-m with a jump lead, gettin someone to turn the ignition, But it just clicks again,, Havent managed to get the gear to spin or Engage Same results on 2 different s-m.
