Default How many miles is good???

Hey guys, i'm looking to buy a focus, old shape, probably W/X reg. I've never had a focus before so am unsure whats good milage. I know with some cars once they start getting to about 80/90k miles they can start breaking down a lot.

I've seen quite a few for around 100k miles but wasnt sure whether this would be wise.

I've got upto £2k to spend so thats a consideration.

Whats sorta milage does focus's generally start dyin at??

Totally depends on previous treatment, zetecs do not take well to lack of servicing, some can be totally shagged in 40K, just get one with service history, if this is good 100K is not that much, I'd expect a well looked after one to do 180,000-200,000 miles, before total rebuild.

Zetec engines are good for big miles and would expect 100K easy (Fords reccomendation for the timing belt change is 100K) although wise to see if it's been changed.

I always do every belt on every car at 25,000, but I suppose it's different if each time you are paying out for someone else to do it, I'm just over cautious, 50,000 would be easy imo.

that is a little bit cautious tabz but i'd deffo say 50,000 is piece of mind esp if you give it grief, plus when i was looking for mondy's there was many out there well over 100,000 and they sounded fine, some where still going strong at 180,000 but i don't think i'd bet my life they'd last much longer.

i've got a w reg 2l focus with 102k on the cock. it really goes well too, same with my mum's old focus. she had a w reg 1.8 with 104k and that pulled VERY well. personally i think these engines get better with age providing they are regularly serviced!

mileage isnt a concern if serviced regular

i'd sooner have a 100k motor with full documented service history rather than a 50k motor with no history

buy on condition & history and not mileage is my advise

dont forget though suspension bushes may need doing in the near future.

i'm having to change both front wishbones due to the ball joint seals being nackerd and one ball joint being loose. having said that i think all the other bushes are fine.
