can anyone help me with a problem im having,my series 2 gearbox is kaput,i have bought a fiesta rs turbo box and have been told it does not have the lsd,can the lsd be removed from the escort box and fitted to the fiesta one,also how do i tell if my escort has an lsd box what markings/numbers can i look for (incase its been changed in the past) cheers in advance,matty

 

the simple way to tell,look through the drive shft hole
if you can see staright through it hasnt got an LSD
if you cant see through to the other side it has an LSD
yes you can change the diff but its a complete box stripdown which a gearbox man will charge you a lot of money for,why not buy a proper LSD box in the first place

 

non lsd has the same size hole all the way througth,and if you look through the hole,you will see a shaft in the center
lsd has a small hole in the center,and you can see right through it,ie no shaft.

If checking for an lsd with the box fitted, jack up the front of the car so both front wheels off ground and turn one front wheel slowly, if the other front wheel turns in same direction then is got a lsd and if it turns in oposite direction then no lsd.

 

thanks for all the quick responses,the reason i bought a fiesta rst box was because i knew it was sound as i got it from a mate,ive bought boxes from ebay etc in the past and most are on there last legs,how big a job is it to take my lsd out and fit it to the fiesta rst box ?
