Default rev counter issues

Right got a problem my rev counter is giving me the wrong reading. When i rev the car it should be around the 2 grand mark but the gauge is saying 5. What could be causing this?

Has it just started doing this ?, or is it after some ignition changes ?
Either way the tacho is only a re scaled volt meter, so might have gone duff as they do often.

i have just done a turbo conversion so a new loom has gone in, the counter was working fine before i chaged the engine but the counter from the donner car worked fine. Just slight tap of the pedal is reading a massive increase in revs

Have you changed from a coil to a coil pack if so the old tacho will not work.

SO did you do any ignition changes ?, ie the ever popular coilpack from std coil ?

The car was running 3i management with coil pack now it's running rs turbo mfi management with Std coil. The only thing I have not changed is the dials will are still 3i.

That's your problem, the different ignition system, you need a rev counter for the type of ignition system, you can go from coilpack to std coil or vice versa without changing /modding tacho.
