hi guys

im very new on here and need some help off the pro's

ive got a J reg xr2i 1.6 8v and have started to restore/strip it.
i need help with my decision on engine. and im on a budget

ive taken my 1.6 8 v engine out and is sat thare pending a desicion.

can this be stripped down and cleaned and rebulit to make an RS TURBO engine with other parts ????????


please can i have some input as to what is the same and what i would need to modify when i rebuild.

you can sort of do it, fit rst pistons and new rings after a hone if all is good, the rest is fine, apart from no oil return in the front of the block for turbo, but a return can be welded into the sump pan high up.
in all honesty it'd just be better to get a ready to roll bottom end from a turbo, but i have used a 3i engine before which is the same as a 2i in an xr2 with a turbo technics kit.
i have a bottom end with rst pistons and rods in sat around doing nothing (block needed rebore really and oversized pistons), will need new rings and are all straight, i even have a sump with oil retun in it too, if it's of any use PM me and we can talk as you're not so far away from me.

thanks but definatly want to keep it to being a turbo. and a 1.6 at that.

 

As said, just change pistons, sort oil return, fit RST head gasket and make sure you have the later type valve guide seals that are held in place with the springs.
