afternoon all this may be a silly question but how would i get a stuck oil filter off on an rs turbo. ive got a chain link wrench which does nothin also tried the screwdriver trick but that just made the hole bigger so now im left with a mashed oil filter to get off please help

 

have you hammered the screw driver so that it comes out the other side then turn ? this always worked for me until i got the proper chain wrench tool

 

Jesus it must be tight for a chain wrench not to move it, I assume it was just crushing inwards ?
Try a jubilee clip as close to the engine end as you can as more strength there, tighten really well and tap around with a long bar and hammer, the shocking action from the hammer helps as well.

small chisel on the rim of the filter if tabetha's way wont shift it, be very carefull but ive done it that way when all else failed before.

 

thanks for your help peeps, used the wrench it buckled the shit out of it but managed to loosen it so i got it off but when i changed filter and put new oil in i started it engine sounds quiet apart from a faint tapping/rattling sound coming from the engine. theres no smoke and i have good oil pressure any ideas what it is

Most likely just the tappets, will no doubt be better after a run.
