Can anyone tell me where the bulb failure module is located on a Sierra (3 door cossie) and whether it's likely to be the culprit for the disco lighting problems I'm experiencing?

The display panel has shown a persiatant fault, which does exist, with the driver's dipped beam for some time; I checked the earth next to the light and it was good, checked the relay and it's fine, can't get to the bottom of it.

Now I'm seeing intermittant warnings for the brake lights which seem to be fine, side and tail lights that come and go; it's driving me mad and I really should get to the bottom of it seeing we're in midwinter!

Any ideas?

the bulb failure module is down behind one of the a pillar kick panels, but it won't be that. what you have, particularly on the rear lights, is a typical ford bad earth.

the rear disco lights are very common to old fords, you just need to clean up the earth connection on the light board, and i think there's one that bolts onto the rear panel inside the boot (near where the jack bolts up).

is the problem with the dipped beam that it dooesn't work on the passenger side? i believe that the passenger side headlamp takes it's earth from the drivers side one. check tah tconnection.

I'll have a look at the rear clusters, as you say they do have a bad reputation. I just though it was all too much of a coincidence and the lights are out rather than dimmed like you sometimes get when a bad earth makes them flash in time to the indicators. The indicator panel sometimes shows both brake lights as being intermittently faulty during a journey, warning goes out when you press the pedal, comes back on when you take it off and look ok when I get out have a look!

The light dipped beam that works is the LHS, the one that has the problem is the RHS, though both of them seem to have local earths and I cleaned and greased the RHS to no avail

If its of any consulation,the indicator panel on my 3 dr also shows the rear brake lights have failed until i press the brake pedal,then guess what???The indicator panel stops showing the fault,think as you siad its just a common problem.Regards Micky

 

Hi Mickey,
With the brakes the light is meant to stay on until the you have pressed the brake the first time after you turn the ignition on, don't know why the brake lights are different from the rest. Mine go through through that initial sequence but the warning light often comes back on whilst you're driving along, it goes out whilst I press the brake and then comes back on more often than not

THE WARNING LIGHTS STAY ON TILL PEDAL IS PRESSED THIS IS SO YOU CHECK THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH AS WELL
