hi guys, iv had this problem on my 4x4 saph since rebuilt it
noisy tappets, mainly on tickover, and it takes a long time for the oil pressure light to go off when restarting (after standing a while), it was built with new cosworth high pressure oil pump, and has always had good pressure. (2bar at warm idle) still has noisy tappets (new genuine ina)
i did prime the oil system with a drill on the aux pulley before start up!! with belt off.
could this be a cracked pump of sum sort??
also im converting the car to 2wd format verry soon, so i will be investigating the pump then, i think i will need a 2wd pump with a 2wd sump wont i??
which pumps are recomended (2wd)
thank for any info
martin

7 secs is real bad, should be out within a second.
The noisy tappets can be down to low mileage if new ?, some do take a few miles to fully quieten, some of mine took 50 miles till totally happy, and ones buggered up now!
The most likely cause is the oil filter allowing drain back, this has/should have a spring loaded disc inside which keeps the system full of oil after shut down, so could be a simple filter change to sort, I recommend MAHLE, I won't use a ford one, too much rust inside for my liking, had a few ford ones leak from inside out due to rust as well.

ummm, thanks tabetha,
i have don around 4 k miles since rebuild, changing the oil and filter several time to cure this, including tappet changes. found no differance. iv measured tappet to bore clearances- all fine. iv had the head off to check the oil return valve ball bearing thingy, all seemed fine. im convinced now that their is a problem with the pump itself or pickup seal, or even pump seal to block. i no iv got a problem sumware. actual oil pressure wen running is in good.
my theory is if a pickup pipe is leaking then pressurised oil system will be airated hence playing my tappets up etc ??????? tabetha?
