Default revs issue when changing up the box

The problem I have is that when driving and I change up a gear the revs increase a little as if ive still got my foot on the gas, it don’t do it changing down the box only up, its been doin this on n off now for a couple of weeks and I wondered if anyone has any ideas as what could be the cause, oh and it’s a 96 18 zetec 118kw
Any help would be appreciated

youll probs find its the idle control valve, Which is situated at the back of the engine ( inlet side ) between the plastic manifold. Secured by 2 x 8 mm bolts and a clip on cable on the right .

once off ( can be tricky ) clean with carb cleaner, and let soak with fresh carbcleaner & wd40 for about an hour. ( i did mine with wd40 and petrol )

Leave to dry or aid in drying with air line etc and then refit. ( I also d/c teh battery whilst doing this for my own reassurance , buts its upto u )

Revs should now be fine, and idles alot more smoothly, Or another possibilty is that u have an air leak Or your Exhaust sensor ( on ur down pipe ) has gone.

simple way - cold engine = MAF air intake / idle control valve

Hot engine = Exhaust emmision sensor
