Default iB5 Gearbox sensor

Anyone know what this sensor in the side of an iB5 gearbox is for? I have another iB5 in my car and it doesn't have it, just a normal reverse switch like an rs turbo box.

I assume its something to do with the reverse light but theres 4 wires coming out and how the hell do you remove it? I cant split the box with it on and dont really want to bust it off!

I think i will just remove it, and apply some blue hylomar to stop the leak...

I removed the sensor off, just need to gently wiggle and pull the sensor off, it has a little snap retaining spring on it, so ...just pull it off.

Tried the blue hylomar, had it all blue'd up, still leaks, so a new sensor is needed

Might be something to do with reverse wiper function.

Its a sensor used by EEC - V so it knows which gear you are in I believe.

It only operates when reverse is selected though, its like a ball+socket joint, when reverse is selected, the selector moves to operate the switch, otherwise its does sweet f.a
