i recently bought an 1994 1.8 efi xr3i, the gent said it neaded a new battery so i brought one with me when i went to pick it up, changed the battery and the car turned over but would not fire up, thought it might have been the halford battery just neading a charge, got the jump leads on and it fired up first time, drove it 50 miles home, turned the car off and went to get the wife to show her the mighty ford id bought, tryed to start it and again turned over but no ignition, tryed a few different batteries and the same thing. turns over but not starting, but jump starts every time?? things ive checked below

.new ht leads
.new spark plugs
.checked all earths and did a full earth check
.checked all electrical conections i could get my hands on including, relays, ecu, crank shaft position sensor,
. the imobiliser has been ripped out by someone else had a technician to have a look at it and he says that the way it is now shouldnt affect the ignition considering it still jumps, and sometimes starts without jump.
the fuel pump makes the priming sound but stays on constantly,(fuel in tank) which says to me ecu fault, but that doesnt explain the fact it will jump every time,
. starter motor is fairly new and turns the engine
.altenator charges battery fine to.
when its running its a gem to drive and its in mint condition its just the ignition fault thats ruining it. any help very welcome, thanks Dougie
