Default 1.6 zetec cuts out when cold

Can any one help me?

I'm having problems with my M reg Escort Si 16 zetec.

Every morning the car will start first time and run without a problem, I then drive for about 200 yards and the thing will cut out. One started back up will continue to run fine all day. Any Ideas as to what could be going on, I thought it could be the auto choke, but ruled this out as after the engine is restarted it seems to be operational. Also if I leave the car tick over for a few mins it won't stall? I'm Puzzeled.

Cheers!

Early zetecs also had a known problem with coolant sensor reliability, causing bad running whilst cold - for the sake of the price of a new sensor (simple to fit, it's in the top of the thermostat housing) it may be worth trying.
