Anyone got any ideas on to why my rs turbo would be howling when coming on to boost?
It also seems to be lacking power now and takesa while for the howl to get louder for the car to finally read positive boost pressure on the gauge and then actually go anywhere?
starts on the flick of a key and runs and idles fine
bit confused with this
any ideas?
cheers

no always as boost will expand it,so might not effect it under normal pressure!check what the boost is at the turbo and the inlet manifold see if there ne difference

Have a look in your boost pipes, if turbo was this shagged bound to be lots of oil in there.
Hopefully it is just a bad boost leak, though it's a lot cheaper!!

theres not abit of smoke at all from the exhaust to suggest turbo is worn or knackered, its a pts stage2 hybrid turbo from 2005 covered about 10k now, still looks abit shiny etc if that makes sense
gonna go out no quickly an whip top boost pipe off to see if theres oil in there. Is there any pipe i should particularly check to see if theres oil or too much oil in it?

It's definetely your turbo ... you have overheated your bearings... I had the same story. My oil pump broke, I've stopped right a way and turn the engine of after oil pressure bulb whent on. Saving the turbo from running without lubrication, but as I stopped it on very hot engine it fucked the turbo. After I've sorted my oil pump the turbo began to howle like yours... not loud but still, so I took it to the turbo specialist and they found overheated parts inside. After rebuiled there was no howling sound, so it was deffo the turbo.
P.S. and there was no oil or movement in the shaft, so don't judge by that.
And if you have an air leak and standard RST breather sistem, then it's deffo not an air leak as it would stall the engine.

it has a bailey breather system fitted to it so not standard. The sump gasket was leaking before and made it run down on oil to minimum, but surely it can't do that much damage??
theres no traces of oil in the pipework its all dry.
the turbo still boosts but later up the rev range after 4k then it makes alot of boost, but the overall boost pressure is down
