for a month or so my tappets have been not badly noisy but enough to annoy me, you know. Any way yesterday morning i thought ill stretch the cars legs for the first time, since ive owned it as i usually dont go above 4 and a half k. Well i took her to the limiter in 1st, 2nd and nearly in 3rd. When i pulled up in the car park the engine sounded fine. Does that mean it Needed the leg stretch and did it a bit of good, or is it time to change the tappets and followers? cheeRS

 

i would just take it to a garage and get the tappets checked out

 

It just means most likely the tappets were not adjusted correctly before, the extra grief you gave it thinned the oil a bit more and helped loosen any crud that was in them, they are ok to leave as is, it should be pretty quiet.

Has it been sitting for a while? As they are hydralic tappets the oil may have sluged up and now you have given it a good bootful its cleared it out.

it has not sat around i just dont throttle it enough which i guess gave it the sludge aroundthe tappets

 

probably just needed a good blast

as tabs says, the hotter the engine gets the thinner the oil, probably done it a world of good
