iv just brought a engine with a turbo on which is not really needed but it has play in the shaft side to side quite a bit of movement and i cant really tell weather it has in and out movement i dont now what spec the turbo is i think its a t34 the exgauhst housing is 48 and the peler housin is 60 if any help i waswondering how much would a rebuild be for one

 

prime it with oil then recheck the play, normally about half a mm side to side but no in & out.

 

is it? my turbos still good then with very slight side to side

 

Putting oil in it is a bit pointless as it is the pressure that stops some play, so long as you can't see the wiggle side to side, and can only just feel it still got life left in it, it floats the shaft on the oil film between it and the bushes surrounding the shaft so of course there must be room for the oil to get into, hence the play.

360 thrust bearings have slightly more play though anyway
