Question ST170 speedo clocks

Hi i'm new on here my name is Anth and I drive a mk1 focus lx.

Well I bought some st170 clocks and last night when I put them in the dials are dull ,the needles light up bright enough but not the dials and i'm stuck what to do.

I was thinking if I could pop them back in the st170 and turn the dimmer switch up to brighten them then pop them back in my lx would this work?, they came with the oil clocks but I'm not bothered about them working just want to get the dials sorted so That I can drive on a night, any help much appreciated

st170's have a dimmer switch that accompanies the clocks, maybe wire that in as well?
