Angry Not holding power!!

Hey ppl lookin for some help,hints/advice!!!
XR3i EFi when the cars runnin the battery is chargin at 13.6/13.7 but when not runnin the voltage in the battery drops to low 10 volts and wont power up the motor meaning she needs jumped or bumped!!! >
is this the alternator or battery thats goosed!! or even a bad earth! Its in the back of my mind whats up with her as i've had a few escorts but guess the old age has kicked in and i cant seem to remember! all reply's will be greatly appreciated

i would gess the battery have you tryed charging it over night?

not yet mate was meant to get a loan of a charger yesterday, hopefully get it 2moro as i have another battery thats needs chargin aswell! just hope its not the alternator pretty pennyless this month so cant really afford a new one :L

would say the batt is nackard, the alternator is sticking 13 volts in, but it aint holding it,

It's the battery, if it were discharging through the alt due to defective diodes it would not be anywhere near as quick to do so as this.
I would clean up all connections anyway, as the batteries age the plates break up and the broken bits fall to the bottom causing a permanent short in that cell, years ago some were washed out then refilled and got a bit more life out of them, but most are sealed these days.
I always use Varta Blue myself, expensive but get what you pay for.

Thanks ppl it was the battery needed chargin! the battery was only 6weeks old but the car was parked up for most of that time crappy motor factors battery :O
