Angry Engine failure maybe after oil loss?

just picked up my H reg escort rs turbo and took it a run this morning the day after i had just driven it up from england back to scotland. it ran sweet and didnt miss a beat all the 200 miles it was driven up and this morning decided to spit oil all over the engine via the oil cap

so engine conked out at a set of lights (spun down slowly and didnt just do it abruptly so dont think it had totally seized)

so went got some oil and topped her up! went to turn the key and was welcomed to the glorious sound of the starter just purring away rather than my frickin engine!!

checked that im getting fuel (3 month old cossie pump) and theres no blockages on the air side. and the oil hasnt leaked out anywhere??
the water doesnt stink either and has retained level.

anyone any the wiser here cos im am snookered and im going to have to go back to my DIS astra until i can get it sorted. SOONER rather than later i hope
