Default HELP - XR2i 16v rear brakes

We've been on a bit of a mission this weekend trying to fit new brakes to the XR.

We've come across this little problem and cannot see how the rear shoes can be adjusting properly....

What's going on here then? Why would somebody weld the ratchet up?

I cannot ever remember buying any near rear shoes for the car... but I have had it 7 years and they must have been changed at some point. However, there's plenty left on both sides at the rear and they aint been done for a few years, so I am thinking that they aint working properly.

Anyone any suggestions?

hey what has happened there is that the adjuster teeth have worn away in time so who ever has done the back brakes on the car has been to tight to buy a new set of adjusters so they have just welded it in place to stop them adjusting off and giving you barely any back brakes.. just get a new set of adjusters and youll be fine.
