Default Engine Swaps - DVLA, MOT, Road Tax

Afternoon All!

Just a quick question concerning those who have done engine swaps etc.

How would you go about imforming the DVLA in order for the MOT to be based on the correct engine emissions (or no emissions for those bike engines) and the road tax to be correct?

Could someone give me a step by step process?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

David

im pretty sure but not 100% but with the emissions side of things im pretty certain its a case of what car its going into and not what engine your using.

for i.e lets just say a 1.8 mk6 escort gti registered in 1998 so it has a cat, then you fit a 1.6cvh turbo lump in the car come. mot time the car will still need to pass the emissions set for the 1.8 which are much lower than the car the cvh turbo came from and you may have difficulties passing.

If you have a 1998 car with a 1987 engine then you get tested on 1987 emmissions, but you have to prove the age of the engine.

And if you have a 1987 car with a 1998 engine then you get tested on 1987 emmissions.

But I'm not sure how the road tax is going to work

Is it the car the engine block came from? ie. if you do a ZVH its the Zetec that the engine came from?

Cheers
JAmes.
