Default no 2-4-reverse gear

Hi guys

I am not able to put my saph into 2-4-reverse gear.

1-3-5 works fine, or should i say it goes in gear and moves forward.

I am thinking it might be something to do with the gear linkage but i am at work at the moment and have a couple of hours still to go before i can tackle this.

sucks that i parked the car nose it to the parking space at the office

it will tell you if it's your box or clutch or linkage if it work's with the engine off then it's your box or clutch, if it still doesn't then it'll be your linkage.

Hey all

So quick update, i finished work and went out to the car park, I was still not able to get into the bottom gears. Then i had to get a mate to pull me out of my parking space and limped home switching between first and third. She drives fine so i think that it is just the linkage. Any advice on what to do?

So i got back into town last night and this morning I started to take a look inot this in a little more detail.

Once all the gear stick gators and a couple of screws where removed i had a quick look and the there does not seem to be much that is wrong under the shifter apart from perishing rubber gator.

So now i am thinking tat the rod that runs forward from the shifter is loose etc. but i am not sure how i can inspect this as it is on the top of the gearbox. is there an inspection hatch on the top/side of the tunnel or do i have to drop the box? or would there be enought room for inspection if i just jacking up the car?

Ww

P.S its funny how you get to take a dive into the past of your car when you start to remove stuff, i found a sprinkling of tobacco and a small 10p size nugget of hash wrapped in cling film. good knows how long that had been there for and thank god that I found it before the filth found it on one of there routine stop

P.P.S i just tried to jack he car u by the jacking points and the jack point loop just bent like butter. i guess that another task to add to the list!

Ok so i ran out of time and had to drop her into performance3000 this morning.

They put it on the ramp and say that nothing is obstructing thelinkage so it looks like is a box out job so that another couple of weeks work or leave it in the garage for a week and drop 600 quid.

Its a shame that no-one on here couple give any futher help.

It's tough when you don't get the answers that you need but that's life. I reckon you should buy a used T5, get yours out, swap in the replacement T5 and get your car running. If it's not the gearbox you will discover what the problem is as you remove the gearbox anyway. You can sell or repair the damaged box, or if you discover it's not the box, sell the one you bought for the same price.

I would also call a couple of gearbox specialists who know about the T5 and ask them. You'll probably get the answer on your first phone call.

Obviously the phone calls before the gearbox swap!

Hi,

You haven't actually mentioned whether your car is 2WD or 4WD I ask as you mentioned getting your MT 75 rebuilt which would indicate 4WD and then you ask about getting a T5 which would not fit your car.

Kind regards,

MArtin.

Sounds like an internal selector fault, I've had this before on an MT75 but for the life of me can't remember what it was. The clue is in 2nd and 4th both on the pull back

Apologies, assumed you were 2WD. Still, a replacement box is an easy option or maybe go for: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FORD-RS-COSWOR...mZ310116842393

Reconned box: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-Sierra-Es...mZ330301661103

Hello matey

Its times like these that i really miss my huge garage that i left behind in the states, but the problem then was that the US supply of cossies is non existent apart from a couple of imports.

So i have had to take it down the local perfomance garage, they can do the work but i would really like to be able to get stuck in. But as i am living in a hotel for the next 3 months my options are very limited. however i am talking with some locals to see if i can squat in the corner of a car transporter garage for a couple of months so fingers crossed. But that will be to late for this little adventure

Ask the seller mate.

I generally prefer to do jobs myself. I know that a gearbox swap is not going to be easy but as long as you take it steady and check the manual then it should be OK. Once you have the boxes swapped you can look at fixing or reconning or selling yours. I think the MT75 book that I pointed you to on Ebay may be the best way of sussing out what is wrong with the box before you remove it.

Hi All

So latest update, i had to work onsite for the past couple of days so i have left the saff at perfomance 3000 to have the gearbox looked at, new paddle cluch and quickshift installed.

I was talking to a mate the other day and it might just be one of the gate springs that broke which would be kewl! but still means the box needs to be dropped out and the perfect oppitunity t ohav ethe other bits done.

It still sucks that dont have a garage/the time to work on her myself.
