my 1st post
i had to cut and recrimp my wires when i fitted a new pump,i dont think there's any big deal in doing so providing it's done properly.i put a blob of solder on the wire before crimping though to stop oxidisation and prevent future troubles.i also had some water proof connector covers which i fitted.

Do a search on here, but roughly you use the original pump feed(live) to trigger a relay to supply the pump.
You will need to run a new live supply wire from battery(through fuse at battery) to the rear of the car, I mount mine just abovethe rear n/s suspension turret, there is a hole in the metal work there which is 8mm so is ideal to mount a relay holder.
I also run a new earth to the pump/relay.
As wiring looms age they build up resistance, so even measuring 12v at the pump can drop considerably under load, as the digimetre does not take any amoun of current, where as a pump does, 18 amps at lockout on a 044.
If you haven't done the pump rewire, I suggest you also look at fan rewire.

Yes it is a basic switching circuit can be used on RST no problem, despite what the drawing says SPST relay will suffice, this just means single pole ie just controls the live(or earth if you want, but only one) single throw ie goes on or off nothing else.
The drawing points to a SPDT relay which it isn't!!, it is infact changeover relay.
Just forget the "87a" and get a relay with the other numbers, although the changeover relay will work perfectly with 87a, just trying to clear a little confusion.
The 87a is there as it changes over from outputting from 87 to 87a or vice versa hence it's name.

Heres a diagram I Done a while ago when I rewired mine

Maybe someone can let you know which wires goes to which terminals on the relay A,= 87 which is the 12volt out to the pump but I have forgotten the rest, I couldn't even find my old thread which had it all on.
