Default radio remote

hi, i have just bought an 02 ford focus with a 6000cd (with the rocker volume controls) and although there is a steering remote installed, it doesnt work.
so i took the head unit out to see if something was loose etc.
at the back there is the 17way connector that the remote wires are part of, and i tested this and the resistance changes as per the values i found on another site, so i know all that works, the thing is there is no where to plug it.... all the radio works fine etc, but where i believe this connector should plug, the socket simply isnt right..

also on the headunit is a sticker sayin april 03, so i can only presume this has been replaced.

iv attached a pic, and im hoping someone can help.
ther is a socket there, so if someone knows the wiring and it sorresponds.
i could connect the remote up, out of the plug its in now, and into some sort of other plug, if it will work, or even if it could be connected somewhere else....

sorry for the essay, but its really annoying, and i hope someone can help.

many thanks
