Default Focus MK2 Fuel consumption

Hi My first post, can someone help?

I have a dealer (and Ford!!!!) Who are refusing to acknowledge that there is a fuel consumption problem.

On a full tank I am getting up to 200miles when using 3/4 of the tank. Ford say this is normal. Surely this can't be right? They claim that about 20-25mpg is correct!

Is this a known problem with the Focus? A firend of mine had a similar problem on his MK1 Focus and they eventually replaced something behind his dashboard and cured the problem.

The dealer I have say that their diagnostics do not show any issues with fuelf consumption. Is this an engine management problem?

Helllllllllllllllllllp!!!

You need to specify the engine and spec.

Unless driven foot on the floor always or permanently in town that is bad.
My dads mk1 mondeo AUTO 2L does 30mpg always but up to low 40's on a run.
I can't see how anything behind the dashboard could affect mpg, readings yes.
The only true way to determine mpg is to fill full, run it till it's dry, then refill and work it out(on cost of refill), obviously you ned to carry a can of petrol with you for when it runs out.
Most though do a set distance after filling full and use the same station to top up full again then do it that way as it's a lot easier.

Thats what I do, I reset the trip meter, fill the tank and when the needle is on the full line, reset the meter again. The tank is 55L so it costs just under £50 to fill from empty so thats how I know how much fuel is going in.

I am never going over 55-60 mph so it isnt being thrashed.

The thing that was replaced on a friends car is a part of the engine management system.

I finally managed to get a phone number for Ford's UK .......... What a trial that was, it is as if they are hiding from people.

It appears that the Powertrain Control Management system needs updating, and the "Calibration of something" needs resetting.

They think that may help!

Technoballe for "switch it off turn it on" I think

It's just a routine update, make sure you are happy after they have done it, as a few times it can affect performance on some ford models for the worse.
It will no doubt update automatically as they plug in anyway.
