Heater trouble (saph 4x4 cos)
I have recently bought a saph 4x4 and the heaters won't blow warm which in this weather is not good!!
What i have found up to now is the pipes are hot to the thermostat then cold to the heater matrix!! It's not loosing water and not blowing any white smoke out the exhaust.
I have bled the system and i do get hot air for approximately 30 seconds then the pipes are cold again matrix side?????
I hope that makes sense and i have read other peoples heater problem questions before posting and i will try that wynn's cooling system cleaner depending on the answers i get.
Thanks

If the engine is getting up to temp, then the thermostat is ok, let it idle until the fans cut in then you know it is defo up to temp, mine cut in around the "O" of the NORM on the temp gauge.
When you know it is hot enough if you still have a bad heater I would check the flow by feeling the pipe to and from the heater matrix, if both hot the matrix is blocked, if not and one is cold there is a blockage.
The heater matrix is of such a design that if it blocks up the tiny tubes in it it just goes in the tank in bit on the end and out again, there will be no/little convected heat through the matrix.
It would be worth trying to flush it out, with a hose on heater pipes when both are disconnected, or use the wynns if that does not cure, the wynns will clear out the whole system, I do this on any car before any matrix change for a good 150-200 miles driving NOT the 10 minutes idling they say.
This will leave the crap as a congealed mess in the expansion tank, which will need taking off and clearing out, just a stick and water will get it all out.
If not then it is matrix change which is easy enough on these.

If you do end up doing the matrix, when pulling the heater box out, drill out the metal rivetts on the bracket that sits on top of the tunnel and supports the bottom of the dash in the gap between the ash tray and centre console bit wher eit goes under dash.
Then just put back in with self tappers, so so much easier that way.

Thanks, we got it sorted after a day of freezing our nuts off lol, it turned out to be a blocked matrix and it was blocked with loads of mayo type crap!! So i guess it's probably had a blown headgasket at some time in it's life.
To unblock it we used a watering can of hot water, fairy liquid a funnel, a piece of hose and a foot pump lol, but now i have heat it is great thanks.

That's good, but when it's warmer I would run a wynns cooling system flsuh around for a few hundred miles as this crap will be everywhere else as well, then just keep eye on expansion tank as it settles the crap there.
