Diesel escort cold start (setup?)
Hey all, got a van, had to change the engine due to cambelt tensioner disintegrating, swapped the injection pump onto the new lump as it was coded to the vehicle. Did all new belts, setup up the timing and got it running and it runs sweet, it's a little low on power but acceptable for now as I assume when I get the mixture/cold start setup usual service will resume? Thing is it's an utter cunt to start from cold, it fires, splutters a bit and smokes a lot while cranking. How do you set up the cold start doobery? It's the pump with 2 "throttle stops", one that takes up the slack in the cable and one that is apparently for the cold start but I don't know which way to turn for rich/lean and don't wana start just twiddling. Once you get it going, if you hold the revs up for a few seconds only, it does idle perfect.
Quick setup guide anyone? I'm pretty sure this is the fault as all glow plugs have been tested, no air leaks, no other problems and it fires up and idles/drives fine once it's run for even just a few minutes.
