converting CFI to MFI
Alright folks, great site. This is my first post.
I am trying to find out if I can convert my 1.1 CFI hcs mk3 fiesta to a 1.6 MFI engine from a orion. I am confused as to whether i can keep the fuel pump in the tank or is there something else i need to do.
Also will the engine loom need much changing.
Sorry about the long post.
Thanks for help
Jonny

Im not sure what the fuel pump performance is like on the CFi but I know that the MFi system runs quite high fuel pressures and relies heavily on those pressure being maintained in order for it to run. So your best bet is to make sure you have a pump which is up to suppling the correct flow which would mean either fitting the Orion pump which is an external style pump or fitting an appropriate inline performance pump as I suspect your intank pump won't be up to the job.

You'll definitely need to change that puny fiesta pump. On an MFI engine the fuel pressure is what opens the injectors - they aren't electronic. I doubt that EFi pump will have enough pressure to start properly let alone rev up.
The engine loom is totally different on an MFi. You'll need the wiring for the dizzy, coil, the warm up regulator and cold start valve and also the speed sensing relay that goes under the dash to get the pressure release valve working. Tbh - you'd find it much easier to do an EFi conversion as the loom will require fewer changes and you'll be able to keep the fuel pump etc. This is probably not very helpful if you've been given an 1600Mfi lump. In which case you'll need to unpick the Orions engine bay loom, trace it back in behind the dash and pick up the relays and splice that into your Fiesta loom.
Where are you planning to mount the fuel distributor? On the battery tray?
