1.6 zetec escort very poor running reving up surging dieing out and the ocasional backfire
crank shaft sensor changed usual service done plugs etc coil pack changed today but no change. any help would be greatly appreciated

 

oright mate,i had the same thing, and had a few come in the garage with the same problem, it will be the idel control valve, you can clean them out with brake cleaner,but it has never really worked for me. The best thing to do is to get one from the scrappy or maby one of the guys on passion might have one. if not there about £80 from ford but that was about 8 years ago the last time i got one. They are very common for going my mate changed loads when he worked at ford in the late 90s they are located on the inlet manifold and there two 8mm bolts,and a plug. Failing that try the air flow meter but it would be very unlikely for this to go on them. 9/10 times its the idel control valve. Also on zetecs they have long life plugs in them, check them and change them, you would be supprised how s**t it can make them run !

 

Sounds like you have more than 1 problem, unless you are using bosch plug of course ?

I was gonna say idle speed control valve too and like tabetha said,you must have another problem too.
