Default Radio wiring help

Hoping someone can help me.
I've just got myself an Escort Ghia Estate 1992.
It doesn't have a radio fitted so i'm in the process of putting a CD player in, but cant work out the speaker cables...
There is a grey hank of cables with very thin wires inside. are these the speaker wires???
If so, can someone tell me whicjh is which as i'm getting power to the H/U but nothing out of the speakers.

Thanks in advance.

ok unfortunatly ford decided that there sort of colour code is just not normal resulting in DIY testing

there is some sort of uniform though
3 of the speakers are

posotive wire to the speakers is yellow/black
negative wire to the speakers is white/black

with the white n yellow of the wires bein the main colour with a strip of black on them

then it say's right side rear speaker

posotive = yellow/red
negative = white/red

honestly don't ask lol but aslong as u keep the posotives n negatives the same n just find out by trial n error witch are the other three speakers by changing the balance n fader on your unit,

they do run in order on the original ford connector block if it's still there, that's the longish yellow one if i can remem, if u can read the numbers on the one side of the con block itself then the wires goin into the corresponding terminals are

front left speaker is #1/2
front right #5/6
back left #3/4
back right #7/8

i'm sure that's right but let us no if u have n e prob's

oh yea n if u can be arsed i would go to halfords n buy an iso block n connect that up instead u should have an iso connector with you stereo so if u ever want to chage unit again it's plug n play

Managed to get it all wired up and was working fine, then the speakers stopped working.
I undid one of the connections and it started working again, but once again stopped.
All wires are bare and connected fine, can't figure out whats going on...

Any ideas????

sorry mate only just seen the thread n yea that sounds abit unusuall so try wot cabriolet say's have u a multi meter cos put it on ohm's n test the straight through the wire from end to end it should have a reading close to the same as when u touch both prong's together then from the sterio side to the bodywork this should have no reading at all, this way is easier but your best is to visually check it, n wot color is the extra wire n i'll look though the bible n let u no wot it must be cheer's

The extra cable is red, only get any speaker output by putting together with the white wire with red stripe. Rear Right
If this is not connected none of the speakers work.

Hmm! right well that wire is your power wire n should be connected up to your yellow wire on the stereo n then the yellow wire from the dash should be connected to the red wire on your stereo, n also your black (negative) wire should be connected to the thick brown wire in the dash, n how do you mean there is no sound does the stereo light up but theres no sound or is there nothink at all, n have you made sure you'v gone through each speaker singley so you haven't crossed the speakers over i.e made sure that the positive n negative are both from the same speaker on each speaker.

if still no joy n you'v double checked your connection's as stated then the only thing left is to check the speakers themselves, if the unit has power then it should either be the speaker wires or speakers themselves presuming it's a brand new unit,

let me no how you get on

Unhappy

Right, as things stand from today.
Unit powers up fine.
All speakers are wired in properly, all speakers work.H/U is fine as i've tried it in my van.
The speaker cable loom in the car has 4 pairs of cables, 2 to each speaker, but within the loom there is a 9th cable. When i touch this on the rear right speaker connection it works.
Turn the H/U off and back on again i get nothing. Take the wire out and put it back in and on it goes.
Well stuck for ideas now......

how many cables have you all together mate is it 13

color H/U wire

brown = earth
brown/white = not used goes to car alarm
grey/yellow = radio illumination or dimmer wire
yellow = red wire head unit switched power
red = yellow wire head unit constant power

white/red = the rest are speaker wires
yellow/red =
white/brown =
yellow/brown =
2 X yellow/black=
2 X white/black =

the extra wire that is red should be a constant live to your head unit,
your head unit will still work with just the yellow wire connected but not properly

you could also have a short somewhere on a speaker wire knocking out the in built amp inside the H/U, but tbh you shouldn't have the red wire connected up to the speaker something sounds desperatly wrong, check your power cables first if they are all correct then i think your last option is to put your own speaker cables in

Hi thee sounds to me like you have got the ford setup with an amp and the wires you can see are data wires feeding a sperate amp. Only way to sort it is get a new lead and standard ford stereo or trace the grey flat cable back to the standard amp and the speaker outputs are plugged into the amp usually with white and trace colors. You can extend the wires or try to make it reach the new head set. hope this helps
