2.0 Zetec in 99 Mk6 Escort hunting at idle
Help dudes!
This one will be hard to diagnose due to what has been done, but anybody who has done the same conversion may have had the same issue!?
Dropped a silvertop 2.0 into my 1600 Escie finesse estate with the following fitted to it:
2.0 AFM
2.0 rail injectors and press reg
2.0 Throttle body
1.8 no EGR inlet
Ashley 4 branch and magnex system
early non PATS 2.0 Mondeo ECU.
New 1.6 Escort lambda sensor
New 1.6 idle valve
It starts and runs perfectly from cold, and pulls right round to the limiter, no complaints at all with performance, but when it's warm, it hunts quickly around 900 -950 rpm, often cutting out when it's really warm. Above that it revs smoothly as you like. It's a little thirsty
My only concern is that as mine is a late car, it only has one wiring plug for water temp sensor/temp gauge, and with the older style thermostat housing fitted to the engine, it has a temp gauge sensor surplus to requirements! The standard 2.0 water temp sensor is fitted.Could this be an issue?
Any ideas on what to look for?
Thanks in advance for all your help

Not as yet man.
Tried a new TPS and that didn't work.
Thinking of trying another ECU in case there is a fault there..
Did you go for an early 2.0 litre ECU also?
I presume your temp gauge doesn't work either?

Yes i believe its an early ecu, its a DEWY. and yes i have no temp gauge, is this common to this conversion? after it cut out i had a look around and found the positive clamp on the battery was only done finger tight, not sure if this caused me to lose all electrics so i took it off to reset the ecu and waited an hour, put it back on and started it up and let it find its feet for 5 mins then took it for a drive and now it does not stall and has not cut out yet so fingers crossed. Everything points to idle control valve when you search for idle problems. Hope you find an answer to your problems and if you solve the guage problem then please let me know.

Hi dude,
I believe it is an issue due to the fact that the later cars with the single sensor run the temp circuit through the ECU, whereas the earlier type with two sensors run the feed for the gauge straight to the dash.
Mine only cuts out when it has become really warm - nightmare in traffic!, otherwise it goes really well!
I have fitted a new Idle valve, and a new Throttle position sensor, but still the hunting remains - in short, it overfuels massively, as shown at my MOT!
Sexr3i is the man for all this on here, and I have been in touch!
Next step is going for an aftermarket management set up!
Thanks
