Default 89 reg mfi xr3i stalling

Ok,have had new cam and tappets put in today and also had thermostat housing off and cleaned and a new thermostat put it,as well as fresh water/anti freeze.

Went to start it and it ran fine for about 5 minutes then cut out.

As needle is crap didn't think it was out of fuel but put a can in and has been stalling every time I slow down, and sometimes starting then cutting out straight away.

Another thing is,when it has been idling ok,by way of the idle screw,I put lights on and it cuts out again.

Any ideas?

Please help lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well apart from letting it idle until it first stopped we have kept at it and finally got it running so have taken it for slow drive round for 20 mins then let it idle and seems loads better.

As the car was over cooling before, could it be an issue with it reaching proper working temp now?

Gonna see how it goes and what happens now, will post any changes.

Well have narrowed it down to a fan heater fuse that had blown, and a headlight reley playing up so stuck new ones in and all is ok now.

Those fuse's wouldn't effect idle.. are you sure you set the ignition timing back properly? And did you disturb any vacuum hoses as its easily done on the mfi

Well we checked all over pipes and stuff, but as it was stalling if we put lights and heaters and stuff on as well we checked those.

Have also tinkered with the timing too and has made a difference.
