Default Fan and Horn wiring

I am about to wire up my fan and horn.

The fan will work off a switch and horn off a button.I dont know anything about wiring so need a little help.

Can i wire them both direct to the battery? Will i need to fit relays? If so what relays?

Si

The horn would be fine from a heavy duty switch, but the fan/s will need a relay, a single pole single throw(SPST) would do the job fine.

When I was having cooling problems I mounted another fan on the inside of my rad on an over ride switch. Simple LED two way switch from maplins.

I wired it litrally Positive from the fan to switch pole one, then wire from switch pole 2 and 3 to positive battery, (pole2 for LED light when switched on) and then negative from fan to negative in battery. Never had any problems, worked a treat.

Just check the switch rating, DC is a lot harder on switches than AC.
I would in any event still stick it through a relay.

I can get the horn to work but the fan wiring is doing my head in

If i dont put it through a relay it works fine but ive tried the relay and no joy, I tried 2 new different relays to make sure it wasn't faulty,

Its a 4 point fused relay numbered 30, 85, 86 and 87

I have put live from battery to 30, blue fan wire3 to 87, 85 earth on battery and 86 to the switch, then i have earthed the black wire from the fan and the switch.

Does anyone have any idea what wires go to what numbers on the relay?

Cheers

30 = LIVE feed
87 = output(live to fan when switched on
85 and 86 are the "coil" terminals(nothing to do with ignition!!), so so long as one of these is live and one earth this will pull the contacts closed so joining 30 and 87 allowing current to flow, if relay doesn't have diode, and most don't it doesn't actually matter whic way these two go(85 + 86).
What you have done should work, IF you are defo 100% sure the fan is switched earth ?, if it were switched live this will not make it work as it would then have two lives, when one must of course be earth, most are switched LIVE.
