Are you using BOSCH spark plugs ?, if so llok around the base of the porecalin for leakage marks, very common in zetec engines with these plugs had it myself too.
2 out of 4 plugs were duff within 200 miles.

new spark plug and leads fiitted and distributer
the car has only covered 52k and always change the oil. could it be a sticky valve?
one last thing first of all i took the lamber sensor off and cleaned it but the next day i took back out and found that it was covered in black soot which it wasnt like when i first took it off

what would happened if the cam belt streched so that when under load theres a small amount of play making the car sound like its pinking or there was play in the the adjuster
the car has had a hard live the last 20k

would be very hard to stretch cam belt as it would only really stretch at one point not the whole belt, may have jumped a notch on the belt putting your timing out a bit, or check your fuel injectors for right pressure and fuelling it happened on my cossie, nearly whipped the head off but it turned out to be a bust injector??

i changed the sparks around first to check, then moved the injectors into difo ports to check them too, each time pulling the leads off to narrow down which bore is missing, hope this helps

slack in the cam belt is common on zetecs, normally the slack ends up between the two cam pulleys

1.6 focus is a zetec-se remeber guys, not a mondeo/escort type zetec-e.

I'd suggest that if your lambda sensor is coming out completely sooty that quicky then you're running very rich (or firing VERY late on that cylinder) and probably ruining the CAT. Is it a silver or black top se? (marked S or SE?).

Default Poor running Focus

Hi, try using Shell V power as I had the same problem. I had changed the plugs, leads and coil pack, it ran better but still occasionally had a slight missfire.Today I needed petrol and only use Shell regular as I don't trust supermarket fuels. I gave Shell V power a go and believe it or not the power is back and no missfire.! (I WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO POST A QUESTION ON THIS FORUM TO SEE IF ANY ONE ELSE USES IT OR HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME),when I saw your plea for help. So I hope this help's.
Cheers.
