Question Ford "chipped Key." Help Req !

Does anyone know if there is anyway apart from ford to get a chipped key programmed to start a car ? only been given one key with my FRP and my local ford dealer want £180 for a key and to program it must be a cheaper option, anyone on here do it or work for ford ?

There are independants now that come to you, and cost a LOT less than that.
I had a red master and another black key supplied programmed, and the old keys deleted(repo car), and that was £58, about 2 years ago, from a ford dealer, other ford dealers wanted up to £170 though so shop around a lot.

yep they do rip you off, the missus took her fiesta ZS to get another key and they wanted £150 for a new key and to program it, i thought it was way too much so rang up the manager and he gave me some crap about how its a really in depth procedure because of a system called IDS blah blah blah......he was a little shocked when i said oh really seeing as we use IDS for range rovers and the landies at work and i know it takes a max of 5-10 mins!
still he wouldnt budge even though i gave him the warranty code and book time which was 0.3 hours time to program, neverless the missus needed a key then and there so we had to do it

I work for a ford main dealer as a supervisor , and it aint just the cost of the IDS that is the problem a full kit now costs about £6000 from Ford , we also have to pay for the right to use it , also we have to pay for access rights to get the " in codes " so we can reprogramme the new key .

I agree £180 is expensive , but using ford times it is about 0.7 of an hour and key from ford now is charged more cos parts have been told they have to charge a " cutting fee " to help pay for updated cutting equipment that is meant to be supplied very soon .

Not trying to get into an in depth discussion just trying to give people a balanced view of the invisible costs involved , also the fact that we also have to use IDS for most warranty jobs to raise an RVC ( Repair Validation Code ) means that IDS time is at a premium within the workshop .
