hi i have a escort rs turbo and my engine is making a horrible noise, it is like tapping , i cannot pinpoint where it is coming from . but i have relpaced cam, followers rockers and valve springs and stem seals. just wondering if anyone had come across a moise like this ..... the guy i bought it of had blown the engine up so i rebuilt the engine with new pistons engine gasket kit got the head and block skimmed ..... (if this helps any) the only thing i have not replace what i think it could be it head valves injectors water pump and oil pump. please if you have any idea of what it could be please let me know thanks

 

sounds realy stupid but check there is nothing loose down the back just hanging there and knocking against the block, its caught me out before!

 

or a spanner in ur engine....iv seen it befor

 

how many miles the engine done
have you had it set up properly
i have seen it on cars freshly built and all they needed was a set up
have you checked timing belt you have only got tobe out a bit and they tap and sound like your tappets are dry where in fact they are hitting the tops of pistons
is it a faint tapping could be the injectors i have had noisey ones before changed them and tapping went
or it could be where you have renewed the cam ,followers ect ect they do take a few miles to quieten down
needs looking at tobe safe so dont drive it and see if you can get it to a tuner
i aint no expert but trying to help

check the oil pressure might be why it blew up before
